Well, this is my second attempt to post this, this is a 1944 lincoln cent that i come across, although worn it is not all beat up.Now my son and i are very new to coin collecting,so we don't know much.We would like to know if the mark in lincoln's head is something from the mint,or something else. Thanks for the help.
I'm sure it's not a mint error. Looks to be some type of damage from long ago. Welcome to the forum and a great hobby.
Welcome to the forum, I am happy to see parents and there kids sharing the hobby together. I agree that the coin was damaged after it left the mint, a 1944 cent has a lot of years and miles on it not to have some marks. Keep looking, it is a great hobby and you both will enjoy it for years. Bill
Thanks to all for the welcome, and thanks for the information. It's been great spending time with my son,he's 13 and we have never had anything in common, but this has been something we both enjoy and brought us closer together Treashunt, the back shows no sign of anything.
Looks like an exit wound? Wasn't he shot in the left temple? Ribbit :goofer: Ps: Stick it on on Ebay as an "Assasination Penny" and someone's bound to buy it!
"Assasination penny" i love it! I thought he was shot in the back of the head, but, then again i never did listen in school. Well,my son got me straight this morning,he was shot in the temple. You were right Toad, but as i said,i never did listen. Thanks again
He was shot with the ball entering the head just behind the left ear and stopping behind the right eye. There was no exit wound.
Considering most peeps don't know what side he was shot on, lil-lone there was no exit wound, calling it an Assasination Penny still works, since he doesn't have to claim there was actually an exit wound on the right side. I'd be interested in seeing if peeps would bid on it, considering they seem to bid on just about anything so why not an Assasination Penny? Ribbit
WELCOME TO THE FORUM. The only way that could have been done at the Mint is if the employees were in the parking lot shooting at coins. Note I said at the Mint, NOT in the Mint. :smile OoOps. That's the Post Office I was thinking about.
