I seldom buy or bid on raw coins on eBay, but I will take a chance on the common IHCs because there isn't much money at risk. I picked this one up for a good price at auction and was wondering what the membership thought of technical grade and color. Cleaned and/or AT? Photos are mine.
Dang, this one is hard. If I interpret the pictures one way, I come up with a choice, gorgeous AU-58. But if I interpret the pictures differently, I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be 64+ or 65. Impossible to decide from a single set of pics...
I think my photos of this coin are pretty accurate of the coin in hand although even so you can't tell everything from one set and one lighting setup. Pretty interesting set of opinions. I gave it a grade of 64 RB, although the membership sees it as more of a brown. No one thought it might be cleaned or artificially toned, although I had my doubts when I made the initial post. I can see the TPGs giving it a 65 but not more than that. Whoops, just won another IHC - an 1898 NGC MS-65BN. When I can't find anything suitable for my type set, then I work on the IHC collection-gotta scratch that itch sometimes. Just another tale from Coronavirus-ville
My grade is 58 brown. I’m seeing a touch of rub. The surfaces don’t look questionable to me I’m with physicsfan though. It could be my interpretation
Although the cheek is clean, it appears to be lots of scattered hits and scratches. I’d say no better than a 64, likely a 58/63 IMO
I see no rub at all, and very few significant marks. Take into account the size of the picture. Tiny little marks will look more significant in a picture of that size 65BN.
