My Local Dealer / Coin Club Member had the wife and I over to his house to look at coins and jewelry a month ago. I picked up a variety of US coins and she bought a few silver trinkets. But my favorite buy was this collection of pre-Euro Republic of Ireland coins. It has a plastic sleeve to cover the card. The coins are overall very nice, with a few showing some bad toning. Still, a good collection of Irish coins. He knows of my love for Ireland (I’m 4th generation Irish-American), so he saved this for me and charged $1!
Wow! Beautiful coins. A couple of decades ago I put together a small collection of Irish coins. Recently, I've been meaning to add to it.
Good deal. If you're someone who likes to try to complete sets, Ireland is very doable. Coins range from 1928 to 2000 but were not produced in many years. There's one or two very rare coins but otherwise you can find most for $10 or less. I completed the set, except the couple ultra rare coins, a few years ago.
Can you list the ultra rare coins you mentioned, I’m curious. I have acquired some Irish coins since our trip there in 2018, and included them in my Foreign Album. My favorite is the 1966 10 Shilling (83.3% silver) commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Uprising. ☘️
1943 Florin and Half Crown (never released to circulation, very few survivors) and 1985 20p (test pieces for vending machines) are the ultra rares; 1985 1/2p (most of the mintage melted) and 1986 1/2p, 10p, and 50p (set only) are rather rare but not unobtainable.
