I have been unable to identify this online - I can't make out the top word due to the hole, but the remaining translation appears to be: "of Mr. Ferd. Kern at his 25th anniversary of protecting Nuremberg" Can anyone help with this ? Thank you !
I have a feeling this is a merchant who had a private medal made. He is not a medalist from Nuremberg/Nurnberg as far as I can tell. See link below. http://catalogarchive.org/data/sour...ical_Dictionary_of_Medallists_Vol._3_1907.pdf
I think the word is "Festschiessen" hidden behind the hole. This appears to me to be a 25 year (25 Jahrigen) festival or celebration medal for Nuremberg for September 4-6, 1887. So what happened in 1862? Maybe Ferd. Kern was celebrating 25 years in business.
I like the Female Bird dipiction on the crest. It reminds me of the one on toy coin produced by L. Chr. Lauer of Nurnburg. It has a very oddly shaped 1 in the date.
That is a harpy eagle. The 2 Pfennig posted by alurid is "play money" made by Ludwig Christian Lauer.
I think perhaps celebrating his 25 years in either the shooting club or military service and it took place in Nurnberg
