Hi everyone. Curious what your thoughts are on this. I found this in my stepdad's collection. Curious to know the story about the "cracks" and what the value of this nickel might be?

Is that coffee on the 2x2? That is probably just damage. Then again, this might be a mint error, so wait until a qualified expert confirms.

Pretty sure it was a mint error. My stepdad was a coin dealer his entire life and would likely only mark these if they were error rather than just having damage. Not sure about the coffee! haha.

Like I said, I am completely not qualified on my answer. I honestly trust your step dad more than I trust myself.

The more and more I look at it, the more and more it looks like an error of some sort. It looks almost like lamination on the hair of the obverse, but I have no clue what is on the reverse. Can someone help me out here?

Are these errors worth anything? I am new to all this.

Lamination (which I think this is) doesn't add a whole lot of extra value if it is smaller. Again, this might not be that error, or not an error at all, as this sis just my opinion.

They look like lamination defects to me, and as such, are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them. You can never be sure what may happen if it is placed at auction. If only one person is interested in it, the winning bid may be low, but if two or more people are interested, a feeding frenzy may jack the bids.

Lamination errors are relatively common in war nickels. Yours is small and the coin isn't in great condition, so I don't think it adds any extra value. Still a cool error even if minor

Yes, lamination which appears as cracks but as mentioned, not significant to add any additional value.
