Hello cointalk friends, I got this quarter from a Coke machine today. Idk alot about real copper quarters but I've heard there was a way some ppl make a fake copper looking quarter so if u will please tell me if this is or isn't copper. Also on the reverse it look like it's painted with colors like a soft but colorful look. And the lines and other flaws that look just wrong to me but not exactly sure if from wear, storage or weather. I tried to get the coin at an angle and side. Hope it helps your view.
It is definitely a real quarter with Environmental Damage to the clad layers on both sides. The clad is made of Cupro-Nickel which can be affected by long term exposure to harsh chemicals or the elements. It's a bad kind of toning.. Here are my metal detected Environmental damaged coins -
No. Missing clad layer error usually involves one side of a clad coin not both. Here are examples from my collection - The other sides look perfectly normal.
Thank you paddyman 98 for all the photos to express what you are saying. I will save these photos for future curiosities. They really explain alot of different tones and will help alot. Someone told me, a neighbor that some ppl use a torch to make. Coin look like copper to trick ppl who don't know it's not copper. If this is true, do u have any photos of what they look like so me and other ppl can see what a fraud or trixter tries to do?
