As a variety collector I've always sought out some of the best varieties in many different series.
Years ago I ran across a write up by the silver dollar round table which at that time I book marked and thought I had saved it to the drive.
This was a very interesting write up on the 1882 O/S Morgan which really consist of 3 different vams. Vam #3,#4 &,#5
Now to those whom aren't aware of these varieties /Vam's The New Orleans mint was preparing some dies..which were originally made for San Francisco.
The rarer of the 3 is the early die state....vam #3 .
Back to the write up and perhasp the Morgan collectors could share some of their knowlege on this date and it's vams.
I believe the write up from the round table was cloud stored and it's owner removed it.
It was a greater understanding of the history and reasons which led up to this variety.
    Let's see your 3's, 4's, &, 5's 1882 o/s vams.

Here is mine. VAM4, LDS. I’d put at AU58. Maybe 55. I never really understood why the late die state has a much more distinct S crossbar through the O.

so easily seen without any mag:

Always a popular variety, and all 3 VAMs are affordable into the low MS grades. The early die state coins are all rare, with the rarest being the VAM 4 EDS, which is typically prooflike. Little known fact: once upon a time the VAM 3 EDS was called VAM 6.
