Continuning on this RR AE theme, just picked up this Uncia around when Hannibal was making his way towards Rome. Anonymous Roman Republic, 217-215 BC AE Uncia, Rome mint Obverse: Helmeted head of Roma left, one pellet behind. Reverse: ROMA above prow right, one pellet below. References: Crawford 38/6 Size: 25mm, 14.53g It looks much better and clearer in hand... I'd like to retake the photo in natural light, but alas it has been cloudy and raining here the past 10 days.
I am sorry that I missed this thread. You really have a nice one @Orielensis ! Seems we do not have too many opportunities to show off some of the RR Asses: RR ASSES RR AE As P.CORNELIUS P.F. Here are a couple I've picked up since my original post on this thread, from the moneyers D SILANVS and NAT(Probably Pinarius Natta)
I don’t know how I missed this thread when it came out a year and a half ago! Glad it was revived - wonderful write up @Orielensis! here is my only as: Republican Rome Anonymous, After 211 B.C. AR As, 33 mm x 35 grams Obv.: Laureate head of Janus Rev.: Prow right, I above, ROMA below it’s a bit worn, but is nice and hefty in hand. Perhaps sometime I splurge on a nicer example
I picked up an intriguing Republican coin on a whim and found this thread while searching for more information on what I just purchased. The early date caught my attention as well as the smooth surfaces which to me are more important than the amount of wear. Not sure how accurate ANACS is in their attributions so any comments on that would be appreciated. And please show more of your asses since I just showed mine
