Rare Herod Coin

  1. Dear friends , I hope all of you doing well and safe from Corona

    kindly I need your opinion to the the attached coin, I didn't find same in any catalogue , some friends suggested to be Judaean table of Mattatayah https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1830267

    others suggested to arab-byzantine - or late Caesarea ? what you read ?

    Interesting coin indeed. Definitely not Herod or Mattatiyah, and not Caesarea. What is the size/weight?

    India? Looks to me like an Indo-Sasanian style bust on the obv and a stylized fire altar on the rev.

    The ACS linked coin is a coin of Mattatayah (Mattathias) Antigonus for sure. Hendin 1168 (GBC 5th ed.) Meshorer 41. VERY rare! But I don't think the OP coin is the same type.
