Well you do have to do some research, and know a little bit about MPC but I will let the cat out of the bag first here's the one in question.
You will notice on the other ones that there is a connection between the scene and the MPC issued, be it part of the picture or the year. So what's wrong with this one ? the image is of the Series 681 fractionals 5 Cents thru 50 Cents however the note on the bottom isn't even from the same Series ! I will post it below its from the Series 691 and has nothing at all in common with the picture on top, there is no reason at all to put it there which begs the question, why ???
On the 2014 "Defenders of Freedom" set, they used the faces of MPCs. [The Army card MPC had a military related image; the other four, images of women.] On the "Defenders of Democracy" set, they used the matching reverses - except for the Air Force, where they switched from series 661 to 681. I guess someone noticed there was an appropriate Air Force image, and decided to go with that instead of the matching back. You don't show the fifth card - Coast Guard. It has the face and back of series 691 $10. And by the way, the Army Card you show I would consider a minor error: the "Defenders of Democracy" and the stars are misprinted high enough that I would have judged it inappropriate for sale.
Unfortunately, the Coast Guard is not represented on any MPC, not sure if they had any operations where the need for military payment certificates came up, but I do think there service is warranted and appreciated If you have a chance please post some pics of the set The Series 691 was not even issued and was suppose to be stored but some made it out, a very few, many were destroyed, there very tough especially the $5 and $10, here's what those look like.
Many MPC, especially the series 641,661,681 were destroyed in burning parties such as this one, so accurate populations are impossible to determine.
@mpcusa thank you for the information and education. My specialty is Buffalo nickels and I guess I'll just stick to them. LOL
The 2014 cards plus a hand pulled specimen. Note that the Army card is also a HPS - same as the regular card except brown intaglio instead of black, and number, signature, date at bottom.
I prefer the front images over the rear ones, and I am baffled why they used the Series 691 for the coast card image ?
