I'm not going to photo the wheat cents - most are rolled up. There are 1,789 cents all together. Most are 40's and 50's. 89 total are below 1940 with nothing of significance date or mint mark wise. What's the going rate for a pile of wheat cents these days?
The curse of the coin collector. I could get so much done if I didn’t spend all my time organizing....
Most of the Mercury and Roosevelt dimes in the Whitman folders have album toned to the point of terminal. I can't get good photos of them with the lousy lighting today. I'll try again tomorrow.
No worries. Enjoy yourself! Two years ago I had a friend in my church ask if I would help him value his recently passed fathers collection. I was quite excited about it... Until I got there and nearly fainted when I saw the size. It took me weeks to inventory for the man. Looks like yours is manageable..... Something exciting about getting the opportunity to view a persons collection like that though.
I also did one a number of years ago that was too large. The fellow wouldn't let me take it home so I spent numerous hours daily for a few weeks going over to his place.
No, if I were to obtain the collection that's when I go to that level. I look for the key dates and condition rarities and that's it.
Yes,the fellow had a very nice collection. All raw, he didn't have any slabbed coins. He let me pick a coin for my time. I picked a CBH that I ended up selling for $145.
Well, I'm done with my cruise through this thing. All said and done, melt values and face values and other little factors, I'm right at about $1,200. If you were to put an offer on this collection knowing the little information and photos that I've shared today, what would it be?
Well..... A value as in you making an offer to purchase? Or a value to market on EBay or something? I see it this way. If a friend wanted me to purchase that collection I would probably make an intentionally low offer just because I have way too much of that sort of stuff...... If I wanted to guide them on an EBay ad I would probably tell them to show the value in their ad. Maybe have a “buy it now” cost at $1000.00 and let it go to bid.
I was just wondering where others would be on something like this with the information provided. I too have a lot of this cluttering a coin cabinet already and don't really want to add more to it at this time. He did mention that they would be interested in selling. I'm going to be honest about it and say that if they want an offer from me it's going to be on the low side.
Of course he is interested in selling the lot,... to you. That is why he gave them to you. Really all you are going to pay for is the silver. Pay less than melt and sell/trade it off at the next coin show or LCS. The rest is dumped at the bank or CoinStar that you buy at face. You can dump Wheaties and shinny dimes in a CoinStar. I would hand him back the necklace as a memento to his grandfather.
I was waiting to see if someone would catch that. Whoever wrote on that bag maybe didn't have very good eyes. That dollar is a 1923.
Some people get to have all the fun. I would love to have something like that to go through these days.
