Hello all my penny is nearly perfect yet the Lincoln memorial has a ghostly silver outline around it. Was wondering what causes this to happen.
Split Plating on the Copper Plating exposing the greyish colored Zinc inner core. Worn Die Strike. If you look at the date you can see a bit of Die Deteriration Doubling which is considered worthless doubling. That is another sign of a worn die strike.
