I actively collect from a sub-series of the eastern denarii of Septimius Severus - COS II series that have peculiar shortened forms of the legend.

The full legend for the COS II series reads IMP CAE L SEP SEV PERT AVG COS II

I have grouped these into 9 separate obverse dies and have recently managed to obtain a couple more examples to add to my collection. I collect as many examples as I can on my limited budget and will take a double die match if I can.

My first new coin is in poor shape but is a new reverse type for me for this obverse die.

    Denarius
Obv:– IMP CA L SEP SE-V PER AVG COS II, Laureate head right
Rev:– LIBE-R AVG, Liberalitas standing left, holding abacus in right hand, cornucopiae in left

    RI 064ug img.jpg

My only other reverse type for this obverse die is as follows (2 die matched examples)

Rev:– FORT REDVC, Fortuna(?) standing left holding cornucopia and sceptre
Reference:– BMCRE 364A (Oldroyd Bequest 1946 ex L.A.L.)

    RI 064rj img.jpg
    RI 064kb img.jpg

My second new coin comes from a different obverse die and is the third reverse type that I have for this obverse die :-

Obv:– IMP CA L SE SEV - PER AVG COS II, Laureate head right
Rev:– LIBE-R AVG, Liberalitas seated left, holding abacus in right hand, cornucopiae in left

    RI 064uh img.jpg
Rev:– BONA SPES, Spes standing holding flower and lifting skirt.

    RI 064qn img.jpg

Rev:– M-ONET AVG, Moneta standing left, holding scales in right hand, cornucopiae in left.

    RI 064ts img.jpg

    My hunt continues...

With these, condition is not the key thing to me, their existence is the key thing.

Although you have seen them in previous posts, here are my two which have the longer CAE & PERT legend - the only reason I know the PERT side of the legend on the first coin is from @dougsmit's coin with same dies and larger flan - here's a mashup of the two coins:
    SeptSev Reconstruct.jpg

SeptSev Captive.jpg AR Denarius Septimius Severus 193-211 AD Struck 194 AD
    Mint: eastern, Emesa mint (?)
Obv: IMP CAE L SEP PERT AVG COS II, laureate head of Septimius Severus right
    Rev: INVICT-O IMP, trophy
    Ref: BMC 365; RSC 232
    Size: 2.31g, 15.5mm

    Sept Sev Captive 2.jpg
AR Denarius Septimius Severus 193-211 AD Struck 195 AD
    Mint: eastern, Emesa mint (?)
Obv: IMP CAE L SEP SEV PERT AVG COS II, Laureate head right
Rev: T.R.P. III IMP V COS II, Captive seated right, hands bound behind back; shields, quiver, and bow before
    Size: 2.83g, 17.0mm
Ref: RIC IV 433; BMCRE 406; RSC 659

I like that! Sumarizes much of my collection. Cool, Martin.

And just for reference here is one example from each of the other obverse dies that I collect in this series. I have a few examples form some of the dies but won't bore you with them all.

IMP CA L SEP SEV PER AVG COS II

IMP CA L SE SEV PER AVG COS II

IMP CA L SE SEV PEVR (sic) AVG COS I-I

IMP CA L SEP S-EV PER AVG COS - II

IMP CA L SE SEV PER AG COS II

This last coin being the one that started me on this series.

Does anyone else have any? I know @dougsmit does.....

So what are the odds? I can spend years not seeing an example and literally 30 seconds after my last post I look on VCoins and see an example from the last obverse die posted above just listed. I will be boring people again once that has arrived as it will be the 6th example I have with that obverse die.

Yes but I don't have mine sorted out from the others in a way that makes it easy to find them. I have no idea how many there are. Perhaps this means I need to reorganize my SS coins. I started long ago separating the long head portraits from the round head ones but never bothered with the legend differences in the round head group being more interested in the earlier group. This will require thought.
I'm sure I have shown these before.

The two Minerva coins are superb. I don't have either. I have a die match to the Victory.
