Despite the incomplete cleaning job, it is easy to see the fine style of the portrait. I have been looking for one of these for a while, but I was not attracted to many of the portraits I saw for this coin type. The adhesions obscure more of the reverse than the reverse. This must have turned off some bidders because I won this for a very good price. Either that or some mistook the adhesions for a fourree. It isn't by the way. As David has already confirmed, the weight is fine and the style is also good for this type. Please post your favourite portrait of Domitian. Domitian. Denarius. 82-83 CE Rome. I suppose those are just darkened spots due to sulfur? I’ve been able to gently remove those using the baking soda & aluminum foil process. That’s about the only thing I’ve ever tried really.
That is indeed a wonderful portrait! I look forward to seeing it post cleaning. (Could be horn silver, in which case try sodium thiosulfate... not that I have experience doing this myself yet.) My favourite Domitian portrait:
