    It has one.

I don't think that the 1851 half cent would get a green bean. These pieces should have more luster to make the AU-58 grade.

I’m going to say no bean on the half cent. Looks unc but the spots of verdigris and the lack of luster say no

I'm also a NO on the half cent
(same reason as Mainebill...the spots stuck out immediately and i'm thinking it lacks luster; the lack of luster I've seen on CAC early copper, but the spots would be enough to make me say no)

    Some other matters of business:

~I'll update summary info after this coin

~ldhair is up next follow by jom

~the Peace Dollar is a bit surprising, but I've seen some common dates that looked nice but for some reason didn't sticker (don't particularly have a good feel for why)

~ @wxcoin in regards to your comment of sending it back in, I have heard some stories of people being successful on a second attempt (similar to reconsideration services at TPGs); however, it isn't common; CAC does look at the coin again, but they also do check the prior result and it wouldn't be in their best interests to change an opinion unless they grossly messed up the first time

I'll go with NO on the half cent.

I would be interesting to see if the peace dollar would cross over to a PCGS slab. If it was then sent to CAC and got a bean it would make one wonder about a TPG bias.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

The Peace $ might bean at 64, but it is a low end 65. The disturbance in the field in front of her face is highly distracting and might be reason enough for it to never bean.

It's hard to tell but I'd guess non-CAC due to lack of luster. I don't collect copper so I could be WAY off here.

Either way it's a nice coin.

It's time to reveal whether the 1851 half cent received a bean or not.

I purchased this coin from a Great Collections auction in December of 2018. To be honest, I should have looked the coin over better as I agree with the comments in this thread about the coin. Including the buyers fee I paid $231 for this coin; probably a little more than I should have. However, this same coin was sold in April of 2018 by Great Collections for, get this, $908! Someone took a big hit on this coin.

Don't get me wrong, this is a nice coin. But if I could do things over I wouldn't have bid as high on this particular coin.

I totally agree with the comments here that the coin shouldn't have gotten a green bean. To me, something graded AU58+ should be exceptional. 1851halfcentau58+o.jpg 1851halfcentau58+r.jpg

We all got that one wrong. I'll wait for @ddddd to update before posting the next coin.

I read the reveal in post #64. I can not see any luster in the picture to warrant a AU58.

Maybe we all got it right. The assumption that CAC is somehow infallible drives me nuts.

I hope nobody, especially here, believes that !

That's why I was itching to show this one. I agree that, IMO, CAC got it wrong. Hopefully it can be used as an example that CAC isn't infallible.

I think AU58 is fine. Yes it doesn't have luster but the devices and fields are pretty nick free. AU58+? I really don't think so.

Same here. I see CAC as just another opinion and hate the way it impacts the value of my collection.

I don’t see the 1851 Pcgs58 cent as more than a $185 coin at retail. That it went at auction in April for over $900 astounding lol. That buyer is the end user and deeply buried in it.

It lacks the luster for a 58 and flunks my eye appeal standards.
