R L M : Man if that '18-S has wear I don't know where it is. What a grainer! I love that '12-D, too, and the overall tone of it. And that '40-S, simply a stunner! Really...nice coins, nice pics! :thumb:
The only thing I can figure is that he called it AU because of the scratches - and I got it for $30 because of them (or it because I only saw one there). I see absolutely nothing for wear.
I am not exactly sure how to factor those scratches. Without them is is a sure 63 and possibly 64. I am calling it a 62 unless someone has a better idea.
I know. If you can just think in terms of gross as opposed to net grade, I think it can easily go 63-64. I blew up the pics and looked at them good. I think you may have put the Jessie James to them on this one. Nice. :thumb:
TY. Maybe percentage wise, but dollar wise, that honor goes to Jack. He got that S VDB 64 RB for $2200 ($2500 with BP) - and that was his choice of the S VDB's.
Yes, the NGC was $2530, the PCGS an even $2600, both 64RB's. I am now just sitting and going thru notes and costs and all paperwork involved with the show. Believe me, my head was screwed on crooked by the time the auction ended, the AJ manuever threw me into a " mental state " that took a while to wear off, lol. Pulse has dropped to normal. RLM, I think if those crackouts I have here for you actually grade, the dollars AND the %'s will fall back into your lap.
maybe the troll can hook me up i did spend some money at the show although i never went there. hey troll can we a special feature called " the AJ maneuver" as an episode on the DVD. the bradd pitt episode was funny too
Nice batch of coins for you both :thumb: But tell me rlm - was I right about anything changing in the way you look at coins ?
I am still not too sure what you "outlook" means. However, I am slowly getting the idea that I really do have an idea what I am doing - also that I still have a lot to learn.
Spending time with Andy Skrabalak at Angel Dee's table was worth the cost of the trip alone. A fountain of knowledge and the willingness to share it. That was a free " high priced personal seminar " on Lincoln Cent grading, how the BR/RB/RD variables affect price, and the niche of the market that they hold. I was VERY disappointed that NGC did not have David Lange available. Talking the market and coin economics with Rick Snow and Brian Wagner at dinner was priceless. ( And pretty darn cool too )
You have an idea of what you're doing alright, never doubted that. You're quite good IMO. Didn't mean it that way. But sometimes you question things that most would not, or say that you can't see something that I am trying to explain. I just thought that maybe this show and you being able to look at lots of coins in hand instead of pictures and being able talk to other knowledgeable collectors/dealers would help you to see things from a different perspective if you will. Maybe add another layer of understanding to your already impressive knowledge. I know I can't go to a big show and NOT have that happen. I learn something, see something, or come to understand something that I never understood before every single time. Was just kind of hoping it would happen for you too.
What you are missing is that my monitor is far from the sharpest out there. It was not great when bought and it has deteriorated since. Neither my daughter nor my wife can even read the text without great difficulty. Usually when I say I cannot see ....., I mean just that. It is not detectable on my monitor. It also has very low contrast ratio. I do not know what the ratio is, but coins I can see on other monitors look featureless on mine - particularly true for Lincolns. So, when I say "I cannot see", that is probably just what I mean.
For future ones, which motels/hotels seemed to be the best deals? Do they have shuttles to LAX ? Thanks Jim
