Here I go, cheating again.

A head-on view of the departing horse and rider on one of my Attic black-figure lekythoi from the last quarter of the 6th century BCE -- the one with the hound and hare on the shoulder. (I haven't posted this view before.)

At one time, I had about 35 of the 40-medal set published by James Mudie in 1820, commemorating British Military and Naval Victories during the Napoleonic Wars. A few years ago, I sold most of them, but kept about half a dozen that I particularly liked. Here's the reverse of one of them. (I didn't bother photographing the obverse, which isn't terribly interesting.)

Philip II (359-336 BC). AR Fifth Tetradrachm. Posthumous issue by Philip III Arrhidaios (323-317 BC) in the types of Philip II. Amphipolis mint. Struck under Polyperchon, circa 318-317 BC.
Obverse: Head of Apollo right, wearing tainia.

I'm still fresh out of ancient horses I want to show, so here are two more Napoleonic horses, both also from the 40-medal James Mudie series commemorating British Military and Naval Victories during the Napoleonic Wars. (Photos are of the reverses only.)

English Army in Egypt, 1801 (Struck 1820). Obv. Bust facing, uniformed, LIEUT: GENL.: SIR R: ABERCROMBY. Rev. Horse standing, r.; beyond, three pyramids. ARRIVAL OF THE ENGLISH ARMY IN EGYPT. In exergue: 8 March 1801. AE 41 mm. By T. Webb. Mudie 8, Eimer 929, BHM 504.



Egypt Delivered, 1801 (Struck 1820). Obv. Bust three-quarters l., uniformed. MAJOR GEN. LORD HUTCHINSON. Rev. Exchanging a treaty, Hutchinson facing the Bey of Egypt, who holds the reins of a rearing horse; a pyramid beyond. EGYPT DELIVERED. In exergue: SEPT 11 MDCCCI. AE 41 mm. By T. Webb/A. Dupre. Mudie 9, Eimer 934, BHM 509.



Here's my copy of the so-called "Rocking Horse Crown" -- George V, AR Five Shillings, from 1935.





Finally, the 1953 crown celebrating Elizabeth II's coronation, issued in copper-nickel. (Note that for the first time since the series began with James I, there was no official coronation medal issued for Elizabeth.)

 

CARTHAGE

This was the last series that Carthage minted just before they were exterminated by the Romans in 146 BCE. The City was razed, with it not being resettled until Caesar's veterans almost 100 years later. No coins until even later.

This is an odd issue from Carthage, as they did not produce serrated coins until their demise. This one is kinda hard to obtain.
