Corrosion all the way, GRRR!!!!! Lol, really, that's what upsets me a lot with Lincoln's, some nice coins can get ruined so easy with corrosion. That's why it's challenging to find a nice, problem free example sometimes. Corrosion, bah-humbug. The Bird of The BBQ
For some reason, all my 70's Lincoln proofs have a nice finger print smack on the face of Lincoln. I just haven't had a chance to replace them yet, but I always wonder how they got there. I'd like to think that I didn't do it but.........?
I vote dipped ( on purpose destruction ), then staple ( careless ). Corrosion and fingerprints are bad too. Stainless, we need an " all the above " lol
I voted for outright stupid and deliberate damage, ie dipping. Fingerprints are seldom deliberate, and are usually careless mistakes. Staples are always an accident, and corrosion is something nobody wants.
I voted for staple scratch because I don't care about dipped coins, fingerprints are tolerable to some extent, I hate corrosion as much as toning (a big sorry to all toned coin fans) but staple marks are simply unbearable to my eyes. Ofcourse don't I care about any of these if I happen to get the coin for free or from circulation.
I vote improperly cleaned. diocletian-I have a few morgans and peace dollars like that. Grandpa made me do it in the late 80's when I was just a kid. 1 brillo'd, 3 scraped with a silver knife (cause the silver in the knife made it ok to do).
I was thinking about putting that on there, but everyone would have voted for that..lol stainless AKA da Wabbit
You quite often hear comments like that when someone sees a coin like this one. But that was most likely done with a soft cotton cloth.
not a chance...that was scrubbed with something much firmer than soft cotton, I have rubbed coins with soft cotton, it wont do that.
I double that...Its often appears like this after cleaning of the coin by brushes with soft metallic bristles....Although rough fabrics can too create stuff like this.
GDJMSP knows more about coins than I ever will. I know you can do this in an instant to a proof coin with a tee shirt but in this case I think it was more abrasive.
