Mike I'm really curious about how you can think this way without even examining this coin in hand ? I would like for you to explain how someone or something could have damaged this coin this way and and all of the original mint luster still remain in place and not scratched up at all. Also the coin still weighs exactly as a normal one so none of the metal is missing. The rim is totally intact with no damage at all , did you notice how close to the rim at the 11 O'clock position the die pushed the die cap to it ?The rim is paper thin here in this area. this is positive proof the coin was still in the collar or the rim in this area would have had to be damaged. The reverse is in still in near mint condition. I know you have known me for a long time and know I'm not some newbie and know what the heck I'm doing. Hey I'm not blaming you for this . It is all my fault for putting it here on CT in a lions den in the first place. Mike I believe you already know who looked at this coin for me , and he is just as good as any coin examiner that ever lived and sure much better than me. I know the coin is not worth slabbing , I'm going to go ahead and send it in anyway and get it graded and slabbed plus the coin that may be mislabeled as a die clash coin . I'm thinking it is a struck thru from clogged die droppings . The Vise job coins will make this one hard to get it correctly identifyed because it does look somewhat lie a vise job except for where the letters from American are so close up against the undamaged rim. Have a nice weekend
I promise all of you other CT members that I will show the die cap coin on here soon as I can after I get it back from being graded and slabbed. If Mike had seen this one in hand I believe he would have immediately recognized it . I do like this one because the die cap had worn out into a most unusual shape. It even had me confused for a while even with it in my hand. I would like to get the labeled die clash coin looked at again before sending it in . Two examiners have thought it is a major die clash , the one I sent it to and the one before ICG graded it. Like I said in my first post my opinion of it after looking at it many times is that it looks to be a struck thru from filled die droppings because the sunken in R from America is up under and touching the high rim on the coin.I suppose a die clash could also do this . If not for this I would trash it. Good luck everyone and keep on looking for some good error and variety coins
The moderators should really look into @Avery G. and @rascal because they truly are the same person. No point in having such insanely stupid people in this forum. If I ran it, both his screen names would get the ol ' 86. No question about it. He is a detriment to both the hobby and the site
The moderators should look into post #67 to show who the liar on here really is. I would hate to be known as a liar because not many people wants to be associated with one of them. I sure do not . Again for the record I'm not Avery .
You’ve previously posted that you believe Mike Diamond is an expert that you can trust. Many others on this forum believe this as well, because he has demonstrated his knowledge of mint errors and the minting process in numerous venues. You want to know how he's sure it’s damage without seeing the coin in hand? The same way other knowledgeable and experienced error collectors are giving you the same answer. Mike and others have a strong understanding of the minting process. They are constantly learning and sharing information with other experts. And most important, they have looked at lots and lots and lots of coins in hand. Your response to Mike’s post is all I need to see. Another addition to my Do Not Reply list. After all, if you don’t believe Mike Diamond’s responses, why should I waste my time trying to help? Best of luck on your collecting endeavors
Hey old timer I still would trust Mr. Diamond to examine some of my coins. Any expert can get it wrong from time to time and I personally have seen it happen. And another thing I probably have looked at more coins than about anyone . I know quite a few of the error coin folks and used to communicate with some of them and share knowledge . I bet I may even know you if I knew your real name. I am the one that discovered many of the better variety coins because I know what to look for. Now you should know who I am. If I had not been able to discover them they would probably still be circulating around. I'm betting that I'm older than you . You can take it to the bank that the coin in this thread is a true mint error and it is a struck thru die cap . I remember a certain person said it couldn't be because of the tiny pieces of copper in the letters IN GOD WE TRUST . He was just going by my poor photo back then and didn't realize this is tiny fragments of the worn out die cap. A person no matter who it is should never make a call on a coin from a photo unless it is one of the easier to identify errors or varietys. You would think others would understand this.
The correct word is varieties.. And this thread is dragging and tiring already Please stop! Send it in for Attribution and let us know the results ASAP! Not ICG.. Try NGC or PCGS.
Oldhoopster Lets see if you really have any knowledge about coins and how they are made with just one really simple question. If you are so sure this coin is not a mint error then how can you explain that 100% of the original mint luster is still on both the obv. and rev. I'm hoping you will let me know.Remember I said original
SEND IT TO HAVE IT ATTRIBUTED.. DO YOU UNDERSTAND? YOU WILL NOT CONVINCE ANYONE UNTIL YOU DO SO.. NOT EVEN MIKE DIAMOND IS CONVINCED
I spotted this error also. The only true error in this tread...if you don't count OP's instance that the coin is a true error.
I will defer to Mr. Diamond's opinion in post #60. If you have credentials similar to his, please let us know the specifics. Based on your previous posts, I don't believe you have demonstrated the credibility necessary for us to believe your opinion, especially when renowned experts disagree. Thanks for posting and I wish you the best of luck in your future collecting endevors.
IMO, your coin is a damaged turd, but please, prove me wrong by sending it in for grading and then posting the proof here. I'll be happy to admit I was wrong after seeing proof, until then, no book of a post you type out is going to change anything.
I would love to have a truck load of these kind of turds as you call them. I have known for a heck of a long time that what people say on CT will not help one way or the other when it comes to sending a coin in. I already promised everyone I would get er done . I will send in a photo of the slabbed coin soon as I get it back. If it comes back in a body bag I will make sure to tell everyone and apologize to all of you. if it comes back like I'm 99.999 % sure it will then I want a apology from everyone that has thought i'm wrong.
