Please guess the grade of the Double Eagle shown below. Here's a little Hint. The price was about 1880 Euro = 2025 Dollars.
Showing my inexperience with large gold here, but between the horizontal scratch and vertical dig on Liberty's breast, the scratch below LARS on the reverse, and various other hits on the wings and rays, I don't think it would make 65. Those sure are some super-clean fields, though!
I took that as being on the plastic. Only real thing I saw was on the rays on the reverse. That is the problem both with looking through thick plastic, and then photographing said plastic for pics on the internet.
That's a real beauty with full mint bloom and very minor scratches...so I'll go with MS66+. Congratulation!!
I either see wear or a weak strike... still have problems differentiating between those... However, I suspect it graded cleanly at MS65.
Come on guys... Look at these clean fields...no scratches at all. Those minor marks on the devices are barely visible with normal eyesight. MS 66+ all day long!
I won't be a bit surprised to be wrong. I'm paying close attention to this as a learning opportunity.
I think many of us are. I too could use more experience grading gold. I never collected it most of my collecting life, being unable to afford it.
MS65+ was my guess based on the pics but probably MS66 since you gave us the PRICE !! In the future...do not give the price. It's easy to ascertain the grade assuming you paid reasonably close to market price.
