    A all the way in my book - B has cheek marks and scratches along the lower hair.
    Of course lighting could be an issue on A from reflective surface.
    I like the depth of horn and the depth of date on A also ...
    carry on :)

    It's only 2 choices and I think I've heard 20 different scenarios. Lots of different reasons and opinions. I hope this is revealed soon as it's driving me crazy. :wacky:

    I’ll go with B is the higher grade on the slab. I like A more.

    I think A is the superior coin. B shows me more wear.

    Ohh, you are an evil genius.

    I am an utter idiot on this series but when did that ever stop me from giving my opinion in these exercises?

    A is slab-graded higher and is also better to my eye. Reasons:

    * Left feather is more strongly struck on A.
    * Hair and braid more detailed on A.
    * Bison's tail is stronger on A.
    * Overall, both obverse and reverse details on A appear to be more strongly struck than on B.
    * A few small nicks and dings on B whereas I see none on A. This is probably what decided the TPG's to give A a better grade since we all know that strike never figures into the grade.

    And this is the first post that "someone' thought about high points, split tail.....ya see this is what a trained eye looks for ......feathers....cape, eye lids....etc.
    So you get a ☆ for thinking outside the box.....

    Paddy54, I hope that was a gold star because I never got one in kindergarten. That was in an age before there were participation trophies.

    Coin A is probably from a later die state than coin B . The rim break at 6 shows that the die has been around for awhile and probably has seen a few polishings. I think that many times features that are softened by die maintenance are mistakenly attributed as weak strikes. Off the top of my head I believe that 1916 was the first year of the two feather variety which was a product of excessive die polishing and not a weak strike. This is the kind of stuff that makes a TPGs job tough.

    I am a lover of toning. Coin B will tone even more in the future. I'll take B.
