Check out the policy on this item number on eBay 6516483493 (I tried to do a hyperlink, but couldn't figure out how). Does this policy seem abusive to anyone?. Technically, it's not against eBay rules, but if you read between the lines, it seems like Heritage is using eBay bids to pump up the floor bids and making sure that the floor bidder gets the win. That way they maximize their bid, plus they have the security of a face to face transaction. It suprises me, because I've bought several items from Heritage at what I felt were good prices, even with thier high "buyer's premium". On another note, are we allowed to recommend dealers on this sig? I been doing business with one that seems to be great so far. Steve
If you're referring to the " your ebay bid may be rejected " or the " floor bids take precedence over ebay bids " policy - there is a very easy way around it. And one that will save you 5% as well. Just register on the Heritage site and bid directly through Heritage. When you do that you will only pay 15% buyer's fees instead of the 20% buyer's fee on ebay. AND - your bid with Heritage is treated as a live floor bid. The problem, and the reason for these policies being in place, is because of the issues and problems they have with the ebay live software. It just screws up too often.
I'm not quite sure what you are asking Steve. You are free to recommend a dealer that you have had good results from, or a good relationship with, in a posting. Links of that nature should not be included in your signature line.
Heritage I logged on to Heritages site and as it stand now the next bid is $4700 and with their percentage it come to $5400. That is quite a bite but on Ebay they are selling for $4800 and only $25 to $50 shipping. Hard to figure why pay all that extra money, unless the Silver Eagle on Ebay is not real. There are a lot of fakes out there.
I don't think the OP was talking so much about the price of the coins in that auction. I think he was referring to the bidding policies. As to why this set is so high though, I'd bet money whoever is buying it already has another buyer in the wings.
