World war II occupation note... so many minted I sold an envelope full I received from my wife's uncle who had taken Japanese prisoners. Some were in order... pennies on the dollar. Very little value.
Yes, that's a regular issue WWII era Japanese 50 Sen note. It shows Yasukuni shrine, now a pretty controversial place. These bills are quite common and are typically worth around $5 or less in mint condition. Below is a picture of one I purchased at a show a few years ago for $3.50 US. There is a date running downwards on the far right side in slightly smaller print: "昭和十九年" or Showa Year 19 or 1944. The one posted above is a year older: "昭和十八年" or Showa Year 18 or 1943. It looks like these were printed from Showa Year 17 to Showa Year 20, or 1942 to 1945. They are extremely colorful and fascinating little things, but alas, no real value.
The condition is a little rough on top nicer on the bottom one, but even in mint condition they have very little value.
