Back in the day one could cherry pick and error hunt out of bags. The U.S. mint had looser standards and of course the technology was not what it is today. Where error strikes, or medal bit and pieces are now filtered out. It was fun searching bags you betcha.....one never knew what one could or would find. Over the years I've sold off most all my good finds. Double strikes , off centers, brokage, struck thru, lamination, broad strikes, etc. Etc... Here a set of 1977 I managed to save from all my finds . The first a large broadstrike 77 Jefferson I grade it 65 +/- 5 FS The next specimen again a 77 board strike I grade it 65+/- FS slight Rev, collar strike. The next a 77 5 % off center strike @ 10k
Very cool, Paddy! Just out of curiosity, how much was in the Mint bag? $50, $200 or other? FWIW, I still have $50 Mint bags of 2006-P & 2006-D that I have yet to open. I've always been curious if they would contain anything of interest, but like you say, the Mint doesn't make as many mistakes these days. ~ Chris
$50 bags Chris...but I know dad would bring home $250 empty of course.....the small bags lol...my mom would use to repair or replace my dad's pants pockets. Mom never threw anything away.....including God only knows how many cake tins filled with buttons. Ya all laugh but no kidding she would remove buttons, zippers hook etc....and save them for another project or repair. @cpm9ball I meant to add the larger bags the Federal Reserve branches had what dad called rolling cages. Locked cages that dolly of bags rolled into the area to roll. So these would be larger amounts to keep the machine running . So yeah I bet you could order a $250 Bag. But most business needed rolls to make change. What's is so funny is the retail money pan you know the tray that goes into the resister. Most probably has not changed in over 100 years. Most pans had a 100 dollar bank of 20,10 ,5, 1's and cent thru 50 cent coins. Now a days most are POS ,EBT, Etc.... So quarters,dimes,nickel,and cents are the only change most retail uses.
For 3 k more we could of bough a Vet...... I remember dad and I going at it over the extra 3k. No Vett
Here are 2 other finds that were graded by ngc 1st a 84 P in MS 66 55% off center. #2 a 1983 P Partial collar with obv. Blockage ms 65. This find was never even considered for sale ,as it was of on favorite finds.
