    Hi ,

THIS POST IS TO INFORM EUROPEANS BIDDERs TO CNG AUCTION NO TO ARGUE AGAINST CNG

if you are in Europe I warn you not to bid on CNG auction as the Covid19 pandemics is not finish as they don’t garantee to send you what you bought and will not our insurance. That concern their London office that send to European customer and perhaps to other outside US the lots win to their auction.

here the official CNG mail received yesterday from their London office.

here as a proof their email that I can forward if you need a proof that what I tell you is true.

    “Dear Valued Customers,

Due to the global health scare, better known as the Coronavirus or Covid19, some postal services in Europe are now either very slow, erratic, less secure or have stopped due to personnel shortages. We at CNG therefore ask, if you would prefer that we hold onto your purchases for safe keeping, until some sort of normality returns. If you feel confident that delivery services in your locality are still reliable and secure, we will of course ship your purchases to you, but this will be at the owners risk. As scanning of ‘Tracked Signed For’ postal services is being suspended for an unspecified time, CNG will be unable to provide insurance cover for packages in transit until the tracking service is reinstated.”

    Sincerely

Hmm.. sorry.. but perhaps you could write to CNG and ask them to ship via Fedex, and see if they're willing to waive the additional cost? Wouldn't that be better than advising people not to bid on CNG auctions at all?

I would say it's not quite fair to CNG. Although I should add that I have bought very little from them in the last few years, competition is too fierce.

And I note that just last Sunday you were arguing with Rich Beale from Roma Numismatics?

It is an important information people can bid from CNG but European bidder have the right to know about the logistics problems , it is not to argue just to inform , CNG have informed in a general mail so it is public information not private but still to my knowledge not on their bid plateform and website yet.

That information is only for people living in Europe the US bidders and outside Europe have no problem to carryon to bid at CNG auction.

I ASK CNG BY MAIL for what I am waiting to be sent and waiting but here the aim is just to inform my fellow European bidder like me to bid with full knowledge of postal troubles with Royal Mail in UK as did CNG by mail to their customers waiting for what they bids.

For Roma numismatic I had a good PM talk with Rich Beale a very serious and kind person and I appreciate how he was honest dealing with such mistake and will be happy to bid in the future at Roma numismatic Auctions.

In Europe the numismatic trade face many challenges including logistical problems particularly with mail services and some have no choice to use Fedex , DHL ... with no extra costs to keep their customers happy. Some prefer to close particularly to respect their country covid19 law and more important to preserve the health of their employees and we all understand that as it is not a normal time.

If you like something and really need to have it, I would personally go for this option. Is not that you need to have the coins in 2 weeks, or else.

In theory I am ok with what you say but all expert consider that the pandemic situation will last far more that 2 weeks in Europe surely at leat 2 or 3 months and it will be an economic great hit so I prefer to keep my coins safe myself or that they cancel my bids and refund me as it is a lot money for me.

The coins are bought I can find them easily in same condition later so no problems even If I will be happy to get them too.

My understanding is that the OP would prefer to have his purchases with him without delay? Fedex should be able to do it, although it's more expensive than normal registered post. Sorry if I misunderstood.

The lack of speed is from flights canceled. Fedex is always my last choice on the east coast

Tell me something I didn't know already.
To even contemplate that there wouldn't be some sort of issue with postage is naïve at best, a good dose of common sense is needed during the current situation.

I also don't need someone Telling me what to do based on their own " want cake & want to eat it " delusions, there are far bigger issues in the world than You & what You want.

    Get a grip man.

This not easy for CNG as for any other auctions house as even DHL or FEDEX seems in trouble to deliver. Surely some problems with flights , borders. A French auction house yesterday was offering to deliver at its own cost by DHL and now they have no choice that wait and. Hold coins in their vault the time it should be possible to deliver it.

I will say you can bids on auction but you need to know that you didn’t know if you will receive yours coins in 2 weeks or 6 months nobody know. For sure CNG prefer to deliver than to hold coins in their safe.

I think you're looking at this entirely the wrong way. CNG is offering to securely and safely hold on to your purchased coins instead of trying to ship them which could incur risk as the global situation is changing rapidly.

I don't see how this is anything other than a kind and thoughtful move on CNG's part.

I agree with you after thinking what did CNG is wise and certainly most auctions houses will do the same. I can change my spirit when I am wrong. The problem is closed I ask CNG to hold my coins on their safe waiting better time.

Let me echo @AncientJoe. As I see it CNG is simply offering a option. It is professional and appropriate for them to do so.

You may wish to also consider the opposite circumstances. As a Canadian, I just purchased a lot from a European auction. In discussion with the company, their staff gave me a number of choices. I selected the one best suited for me. In my opinion that courtesy is similar to the courtesy offered by CNG to its clients.

Auctions house in Europe or US even worldwide are facing same problems indeed. Not easy time for them, for numismatic and for collectors and all human beings.

I requested FedEx shipping for a recent purchase from France. I'm not sure how this will pan out ...

Well, never mind. They are not shipping orders until God knows when, so I requested a refund. Oh well.

Why exactly would you need your coins "NOW". Just have CNG hold them until things return to normal. I really don't get what the issue is. The state of PA just closed all non-essential businesses anyway, they may not be shipping anything for awhile.

Hi Barry living in Europe I don’t know about what happens in PA so it is the same than in France, Belgium... there no more issues for me. For your information my coins are on CNG office in London that face same issues than in PA.
