Hi All- I'm new at this and have been looking to invest in some gold (bullion and coin) I found this St Gaudens which I really like. The coin is rated at MS66 by Numistrust which, from all I have read, has a dubious reputation. The selling party is asking $1950. Any thoughts? Thanks from a newbie!
To justify MS66, any coin must be a screamer. Especially a Saint. This one ain't. Pass. Even MS64 Saints can (and should) be fabulous coins. Also... 1910-S is a slightly better date. Almost double the $$$ vs. common date in MS64. $1600 or so gets a gem MS65 common date Saint. Keep on shoppin' ! Good luck !
I just looked on heritage, and assuming it is around ms 62-64 they sell for between $800 and $1,000. It's hard to tell from the picks but the fields look pretty clean. If it is MS and not AU it may go MS64 IMO.
