German Empire Help?

I spent an hour in my Krause catalog last night to no avail. It appears to be a German crest. Possibly a German States? Or am I way off? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Tom

Thanks so very much kind sir. At least I was in the right part of the world. My catalog for this era did not have the indentifiers pages, so I found myself jumping back & forth to another catalog which made it very frustrating.

 

coinoscope is an app for smart phones that has some pretty good guidance. Not so good for tokens, etc., but for coins, pretty good.

 

Great idea if I had a cell phone, but alas, no service out here in cornfield country.

 

One way to do it is to go on Google and look up whatever you can.

I've done this numerous times for Eastern European coins and Islamic coins with great success but not this time. I likely used the wrong keywords when I was thinking German.
