Very hard to see the quality of the coin through the OG packaging but I think you all will be able to see the 6 FS. Got it for a cent or 2 above face.
This is the Denver nickel from the same mint set. More hits visible and only 5FS. Looking at the price guides it appears that the D in higher grades is a bit rarer than the Philadelphia, as indicated by a slightly higher relative price.
So... I bought a bust dime the other day. Low grade, and not exactly problem free, but I spotted the notched stars, and $35 price seemed doable. 1820, variety JR-5. For those who may not know, John Reich liked to "sign" the dies he engraved by using a notched punch to make the thirteenth star on the obverse of bust coinage. He left the mint in 1817, so the tale goes, and apparently left his signature punch behind. In 1820 a dime appeared with each star sporting a notched point. Likely a mint employee grabbed Reich's punch and used it on all the obverse stars. Knowingly or unknowingly? I have no idea, but it seems a neat nod to a talented engraver. My pictures are not good, but hopefully you can see how the outside point of each star is notched.
I had a couple already, but I liked this 1936 Mercury for $23. I am guessing MS65 FB. The obverse die has been touched up, since it shows die polishing lines. The reverse die must be newer, since it does not. Enlarge the still photos for a detailed look.
