A few things occurred to me in recent days as people panic and empty store shelves. The first, how has it affect buying at the moment? And second, since many have spent large sums of money stockpiling for the apocalypse followed by the possible and highly probable loss of employment, will collections enter the market place in greater numbers? As for myself? Buying and not selling since I don't need to spend all my money in a grocery store as my food source is still walking and breathing. For the time being. Just sayin'....
I don't buy much to begin with but I have purchased 2 ancients online in the last week to make things better for my son since we can't go to the Baltimore Whitman Show this weekend. I would buy some silver "IF" I could find anything at a reasonable price. Gold is still more than I am willing to spend. I haven't spent much, if anything, stockpiling since we were pretty good to begin with. Just made sure we had a few essentials to last us a few extra weeks. I am in the military so I don't have to worry about losing my job, thankfully. I wouldn't be upset if some collections come on the market, but I'm not sure what the prices would be. Since collectibles are more of a "money to burn" thing, I would hope the prices are lowered. If I see some good deals (to me) I wouldn't be above trying to make some purchases. I will end this with: I wish the best for everyone here. I hope you can make it through this. This is the time that we all need to band together and be better than we were before.
The stock market has done a job on me. I am pulling in my horns. I won’t say I won’t buy anything, but it’s got to be something I really want and not that expensive.
The only good thing that could come of this is people liquidating their collections at low prices, so buyers can reap the benefits. As bad as it sounds, one man's loss is another man's win.
A win at that cost? Not much of a win when you are the last one left to enjoy it. I like this hobby for the communal aspect of it.
Not going to go crazy, but I am looking around seeing what I might like. I am in the food business, so pretty good job security. Some stuff up, (like stuff in delis), others down, (restaurants). People need to eat. My hobby, ancients, has always been more internet based anyway since few collectors in the US. I wish there was more platinum for sale at current spot markets, but oh well. Probably best to keep this money for stocks anyway.
Pretty much the same for me. However, if coins that I want fall in price as much as my market holdings, then it's game-on again. Otherwise, it's wait for market recovery to buy coins. I never try to time the market. Cal
I've seen some meaningful discounting this week on a few coins that are on my want list, so I'm thinking this might be a good time to be on the lookout for bargains. Personally I don't see any rationale for panic selling, but if others do I'm happy to help out.
Just looking on Facebook and there was an ad for ASE's for $15.74 or some such, but it looked sketchy. Going on further down the page, I ran into one for $12 and a couple for $9.99. Be careful out there.
It's a virus. Unfortunately some will die, others will be sick and others will not be affected. Some areas will be hit harder than others. We will all be affected in some manner and this too will pass.
I had a very busy coin year in 2019 and had already slowed down before the virus and the stock market. I’m real picky right now.
And when it peaks and passes, and your isolated corner of the world is largely untouched, I'm sure you'll tell everyone who'll listen that "those government folks and people in the big coastal states over-reacted, shut down everything for weeks and it turned out to be nothing." Your only hope for not having this run through your community is the actions that we're taking right now. I'll hope for your sake that we're acting in time.
Maybe some people will spend their inherited collection at the grocery store and it will end up in circulated rolls!
