A friend of mine gave me some Korean notes about 20 years ago, and I know very little about them. Does anyone know of a website that I can get some information about them? @mlov43 Thanks Steve
My DiL is S. Korean. I'll forward the pix and ask her about the dates. I doubt she'll know of any value beyond beyond face though.
Using my Daegwangsa catalog, this is what I found: The 1,000-Won note (top) is either the design from 1983, or the design from 2001. The 2001 design had a few extra security features added. The 5,000-Won note (middle) is the 1983 design and not the 2002 design, which had a security ribbon running through the middle of it vertically. A large majority of these 5,000-Won notes in circulation were found to be counterfeits at one time, which motivated these redesigns. The 10,000-Won note (bottom) is the 1983 design and not the 1994 nor the 2000 redesign, both of which had security ribbon and further security features.
Still legal tender... You've got 16,000 KRW (approx. $13.00 USD currently). Back in 1991, it was worth $22 USD, which today had the purchasing power of $42 USD(!) Time to party like its 1991. ...oops. Now it's only worth thirteen bucks. And the bars are closed. wah wah.
