I suppose it's back to a cast coin that is square or rectangular then? I believe that these squares were cast in a large sheet before being cut and then individually stamped. If I'm wrong I'd love some more knowledge but that's how I understand it.

Looking back to page one, I see we have not been following the rules set down in the beginning. It says to post a coin demonstrating the new thing as well as a coin that fulfills the original 'next'. Many of you have been posting things that fill both needs with one coin. For example a request for a coin with a wolf can be met with a wolf from Alexandria and then ask for a coin from Alexandria. As far as I am concerned the only thing this would do is cut down on requests that no one here owns but that leave open whether we consider it OK to post coins we do not have in our collections. It makes no difference but it would be nice if everyone where using the same guidelines. Being able to post other people's coins would cut down on the 12 hour rules delays but I like seeing real coins from the CT family.

Ah, I see. No the ingot is not mine, but the Nerva tetradrachm is.

    My apologies.

I am all for rules and order: more coins posted and fewer 12-hour timeouts
    - post coins you own
    - post a coin or coins to both meet the current "next" and the "next" you are requesting

But now aren’t we stuck in a perpetual loop of Carthaginian horse palms?

Are you saying this coin is cast? That was the parameter but this looks like it was made from dies. Pressed?

I think it is, but can't be 100 percent sure. With Suliemans army ready to breach the defenses, they had to use anything method to pay their soldiers/ keep the economy flowing.

Gang, I am hoping that I have the correct requested coin. I am not an expert on Roman Imperial coins...

Trying to keep this thread going, for everyone to have fun posting in it, and to keep within the requested guidelines... Lets' keep it easy and not technical... Ancient COINS ARE COOL! Let's ENJOY!

Next: Poppea (I believe this is the correct request process)

It looks like we are still in need of a RESET. I am not sure I have this right, but I think @TuckHard posted a Mauryan cast square (from this post). So we are here:
    • Next: a non-Roman/Greek coin that you haven't gotten a chance to post here before (from this post)
and if we want a full clean-up that honors other requests from the recent “Period of Great Confusion", @Jay GT4 left us ambiguous on "imperial portrait", "provincial portrait of imperial ruler" but @Alegandron has now addressed.
Here's a quick refresh on the rules as in 244 pages AIS (ab initio sequela) we seem to have lost our way.

    “Follow the Leader" RULES

    Keep it simple.
    1. If you can meet the criteria of current request, post an item of your own depicting the current theme
    2. Post a second item of your own to start a new theme
    3. State clearly the “Next:” theme that goes with your coin
    Fine print:
    • Any coin, token, medal, artifact, etc. is fine but we should keep it to something ancient
    • You don’t have to post a second coin if your first coin also illustrates your “STEP 2” theme
    • If nobody post for 12 hours, then anybody is free to post a new theme
The most important rule: Have Fun!

Here's my coin to satisfy the current "next" (from this post by @TuckHard ):
    Bosporos Pantikapaion Countermark.jpg
Cimmerian, Bosporos, Pantikapaion, circa 310-304/3 BC, Æ
    Ref: Countermarked circa 304-250 BC
Obv: Wreathed head of beardless satyr left;countermark: 12-rayed star within circular incuse
Rev: Lion's head left; below, sturgeon left

and to get back on track - I will defer to @Alegandron's post for the next where he already illustrated. I am admittedly one of the confused in the "Period of Great Confusion" - hopefully between us we've appropriately RESET ;)

Next: Poppea (as illustrated in previous post)

I like the Sulla rest rules but would ask we all try to post requests that we think there is a possibility that one of our number might have a coin to meet the request. Many of us have a Poppaea like the one shown. There are others listed in Sear but I have never seen one. I hope some of you 12 Caesar specialists have others.

I think they must have - Nero aurei are relatively common and cheap (at least for worn examples). I have three others, so there have to be others out there.
