hey everyone heres a question for those of you who clean your ancients from the crusty stage. What do you guys do with all your blanks or coins that are so far worn you cannot attribute them??
I save them to give away to people starting to get interested in ancients. Spark the fire, if you will.
Same here, unless they are that far gone then I throw them into a river to confuse future metal detectorists LOL
It could be kind of fun to plant a few. Can you imagine the expression when a ancient coin is dug far from their origin!
hmmm that would be funny. I thought of mayB giving them to my old high school for when they teach about ancient rome and could pass them around and mayB spark some more interest in the subject or sumthing mind you i'm sure there'd be some sort of rule against that seeing how much red tape surrounds schools here
I make my kids identify them using Wildwinds and a little help from Dad, and if they can ID them, they get them. Romans are easy. Greeks, not so.
That's a good idea, I am always trying to think of ways to incorperate coins in the kids learning. I thought about sending some Mexican with my daughter to her Spanish class. Not sure what they would learn, but hey.
I do a lot of detecting in the Goldern Triangle in Australia's Victorian gold fields and when I get a signal I dig, with the open hole I leave a small hord of coins that has some features with the intent of sparking someone's interest also soon there wont be any targets because most will be removed then It will be boring so I add a little spice and so far I've left about 200 coins Harry :stooge:
