    I picked this little beauty up tonight. The reverse looks almost PL in the photos.

    Sure I will take you some when it arrives. I wasn't aware of the year being a better date. I have several 1 yen and I saw this 50 Sen and thought it was in great condition, so I bought it.

    Very nice! These are some of the most amazing coins ever made, in my very humble opinion.

    And @Stork is correct, 明治三十六年, or Meiji 36, or 1903, has a relatively lower mintage for this type. The JNDA lists a mintage of 1,503,068. Others have mintages up to 22 million, though many have much lower mintages. Still, not a common year by any means.
