this looks somewhat like a retained struck thru coin . But from the position of the circles to the coins rim It looks like someone did it for some reason. It also looks like part of one of the circles is in the middle of the date. I have a quarter with retained metal struck into it that looks like it may be aluminum

It is really hard for anyone to correctly identify some types of error coins by just looking at photos. I have two very unusual error coins that everyone on here said was after mint damage . I know they are real mint errors because I am a 40 plus year error collector and examiner of errors. I also sent them to a error expert and he agrees with me. I'm not blaming anyone on here but just trying to say how hard it is trying to judge a coin without it being in your hand. Photos can be very confusing if it is of a very unusual error .

Would it be valuable if it was a rare error? And would u like me to try more photos?

Sorry but my phone sends often and mistypes. But u r right. It does have one on the date as well as below in God we trust I think. It would be awesome to have a one of a kind coin. Thank you for taking a look at it.

I didn't know quarters were ever aluminum.

Quarters were never aluminum but this does not mean that aluminum is not used at the mint. The feeder fingers and other parts of the equipment may also contain aluminum. Sometimes things that are not used at the mint can also get struck into the coins. I even once had a proof quarter still in the cello mint pack with a big strike thru area from someones ring setting being struck into it. The setting had fallen out of the coin after the strike but clearly identifiable by the shape of it.

I never said it was a real mint error . I just said it is sometimes hard to identify some types of error coins just from photos. You may want to get a error expert to look at your coin in person before spending it

Ok. I get excited. Lol. I don't have any experts any where Close to my little hick town. Closest is 75+ miles away and idk if I could just take it to them because it's coin auctions.

    As I've learned from m6

As I have learned from my coin experts this coin has alot of wear. It most likely wouldn't be very valuable but to learn and just know what I have and if it was a rare error, even if face value would still be kinda cool.

All the info about the strike, feeder fingers and all alot of it I can't imagine but, if I ever see it or someone has one I can sound like I know so much. Thanks.

I will read what u said a few times and look up all the things u described so I can picture exactly what u r telling me. I've been silly today. But I take everything I'm taught very seriously and I appreciate everything I learn.
