Just picked up a small collection of coins which are decent but need a little work. Here are some photos before I dropped them in acetone for a while. I’ll update with new photos when they are out. A couple of these are rather rare.
Nice! I'm afraid that a few show damage that even acetone can't handle - the 10 and 20 mils show some green that appears to be corrosion of the metal. Hoping for the best though!
Here’s an update after taking the coins out of their bath. Not much improvement especially on the 10/20 green corrosion areas. I am giving them a little time with some Verdi-care now. Will update with final product images later.
That 1941 20-mil coin is pricey. I've been after one for 10-15 years. Looking for one for my birth year set.
I know! It was the primary reason for the purchase of the entire lot and justified most of the expenditure. I intend to resell it ultimately thus my desire to do all I can to save it from the corrosion.
I was going to make a suggestion on how to "conserve" it but it's worth too much to mess around with. There is always NCS.
Costs 4% of the coin's market value, minimum $25. So let's say it's a $500 coin, they would charge $25 even though 4% is only $20
Of course there's S&H. And frequently submitters want to get coins slabbed so NGC would get involved there. All that could push the cost up toward $100.
