Morning everyone, I have this 1961 5c which appears to have FS on reverse and wondering if it is? Also the obverse has two anomalies by the date. Are they caused from circulation?
Is this a proof or impaired proof coin? If so it doesn't qualify. Must be MS 60-MS 70. It would be incredibly rare to find a 1961 business strike with full steps.
I believe it is an impaired proof because the encapsulated set it came in wasn't from the mint but the coin appears to have been removed from a proof capsule or set for reasons unknown to me. I guess I would have to take to a coin dealer and ask huh?...
You don’t need to take it to a dealer. The coin is an impaired proof. Since proof coins are struck more than once, the full step designation does not apply. In order to have any real value, a proof coin from the 60’s would need to be an ultra high grade (PF67+) or be rainbow toned. I’m sorry but you don’t have a rare or valuable coin. At this point, to me, your coin is worth face value.
