1996 P Jefferson Nickel

    I just found this coin. There is a diametrical re-strike (?) which cuts off the top of the date. Any ideas what caused this?

    I think that might be an issue caused by a Misaligned Die Strike.

    It almost looks like the seam of a magicians coin.

    Does it sound and weigh the same as another nickel?

    Looks like the die was hitting the collar and wore the edge of the obverse die off at the point where the date is. Sometimes cause by a loose die. Which can also cause a misaligned die strike.

    It looks like a die deterioration issue, it is pretty sharp though.
    @paddyman98 could this be a clashed collar?
