Your camera should have; Exposure metering 4-mode TTL metering: 1) 256-segment Matrix 2) Center-Weighted 3) Spot and 4) Spot AF Area I am not sure just what 4) Spot AF Area is, but you want to use either #3 or #4.
BTW, on my camera, I have to be in manual to be able to set it. Would not be surprised if yours were not the same.
its not i have looked at every setting the darned thing is useless when it comes to taking macro pics
Per http://www.steves-digicams.com/, this should be part of your menu. The second item down is metering
here is an online manual for my camera no metering i can see http://72.14.205.104/search?q=cache...cs+with+coolpix+4100&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=3&gl=us
Sorry, I got the wrong 4100 somewhere/somehow. You are correct about the metering. The only other thing I might suggest is that you try manually setting your white balance and/or increasing your exposure compensation.
buy the book before the camera: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_g...y+mark+goodman&sprefix=numismatic+photography
Spock Try this ghetto trick. Get a gallon of milk ( EMPTY !!!! ) and cut it in half. Place the end with the spout over the coin, spout up, and shine light thru the white plastic. Shoot you picture thru the spout. This will eliminate the harsh light reflections off the slab. I do this to get better color pics when all else fails.
in this case thats not going to help AJ what you are saying is get a 1914 and add the D later BTW the 1914 D came back and i think i accidentally gave away the 1909 svdb to someone also use the chrome browser from Google your quality of life will improve
No Spock, I cannot right now, not tonight. Picture this mentally. Sit a gallon of milk ( Empty Spock, EMPTY !! ) on the counter like you normally would. Get a razor blade, and cut parallel to the counter just below the handle, cutting the top clean off. Place the top half over the coin. The pour spout will be up. this is where you aim the camera thru, the spout. Use your light to shine thru the side of the milk jug, and the semi clear plastic diffuses the light evenly, and 2 lights work better than one. Set camera to macro and shoot the pic. You will eliminate the slab glare and get a nice even shot of the coin. You will need a tripod to eliminate shake. If I knew how to send a pic from my phone, I would do it. I only have one camera. I'll go try one anyways. Give me 10 mins.
i get the idea. People think i am nuts anyways. if someone saw the set up they would think i am a lunatic plus my camera cant see half a gallon down in macro mode its inly got 3 x zoom
Raise the coin then Spock. I cannot take pics tonight, just too tired bud. 75 hours 2 weeks in a row.
