Who is/was the one person, or who are/were the few people that you look up to and ask questions too and respect there knowledge about coins. Mine is basically the whole CT community (and a few on CU) stainless PS: Yeah, I know my list is pretty long..lol
It would really depend on what type of coin it is. Once you have collected for awhile (and you know what I'm talking about) you tend to get to know some guys who focus on different types, issues, or varieties. That being said--- GDJMSP has been a great help to me in my years of collecting and I really have alot to thank him for. The guys here on CT, WINS, and other such places I owe a ton of thanks. Speedy
my mentor's is a great guy when i can actually get him to mentor me the problem is most of the times he likes me so much as a friend he cant get his mentor hat on
you know who my mentor is? if you do tell him i need him in mentor mode all the time. perhaps he might listen to you
Was never lucky enough to have one growing up , now I'd say the CT community . Spock helped me a lot at our last trip to Harlen Berks , saved me about $400 I would have spent on a proof nickle I wanted to buy , turns out it had some issues I was going to overlook . rzage
Mine was a man who owned one of the two coin shops in my local area, Fitz Shelton. He taught me alot when I first started collecting. I went to his shop once every week for years, sometimes just to talk coins and most of the time to talk and buy. He has since passed and thats why I stopped collecting for a few years. I'm now back into it more than ever and now my mentors are here at CT. I may not ask alot of questions but I do read alot in here.
Well, my original dealer in Wichita was always very helpful. Now, I would ask a few certain people in my local club or just post on here.
Well for me what I see on the CT forums is helping. I really wish I knew someone in this area where I live (heck I don't even have a coin shop close by) that I could get some mentoring......
Most of the people here on cointalk. Arizona Jack and RLM Cents have helped me quite a bit with learning about and collect Lincoln Cents. And you stainless have helped me get into ancients too, so I consider you one also. There's others also, but those are the three main ones for me. Phoenix
thanks for the compliment man, but everything I am helping you with I have learned from Arditarion (my main mentor in teaching me in ancients) or the CT boards. stainless
No one that I can remember had any really big influence in my collecting of coins. I started collecting when my Dad gave me those new shinny pennies that just came out in 1943 and I took it from there.
