I purchased this 1915 Buffalo about 5 years ago at a local auction for around $30. At the time it was described as a High AU piece. I stocked it away and came across it a recently. Not able to see any wear I was questioning if it is in face a MS vs a AU, or since it has a subdued finish is it possible it is a proof. All opinions are welcome and if additional pictures are needed please let me know.
By the pictures.........I would have to say MS. Looks like a pretty decent strike. And I don't know why, but I like that streaky toning....I've got a few just like that. Nice coin :thumb:
It could unc, I can't tell from the pix. Not a Proof, needs far stronger stike and the rims don't match that of a proof.
Nice Buffalo , from the pictures I'd say MS , but with pictures it could go either way . Though I'm pretty sure it's not a proof , or all the devices would be more squared off . rzage:smile
Thanks, I figured the Rims not being square enough were a pretty good indicator that it was a business strike and not a proof, but let me see if I can get some better prictures for the AU v. MS argument, then I'll post those.
If it has any wear it is the tiniest amount. Tilt the coin under the light looking at the areas I marked and see if they are a slightly different color. If it has wear, that's where it is.
From your pictures I'd say MS. However when the coin is in hand look at the high points, the rear haunch of the left leg and the front upper leg in line with the eye. On the obverse, look for wear or discoloration on the high ckeek bone area. A very nice coin to have socked away and especially finding it now. Bruce
