I know some of you live and breathe mint marks, so I thought I'd bring this to your attention. I was looking over my 2007 and 2008 silver proof sets and noticed that the "S" mint mark has been updated. It's different on all the coins in the proof sets (and probably circulation issues, too - I haven't checked). To me, the 2008 mint mark looks more like an "8" than an "S". I took these pics from the Half Dollars in the proof sets. See what you think (pardon my poor photography skills): 2007 Kennedy "S" Mint Mark 2008 Kennedy "S" Mint Mark I know this is trivial, but some of you may find it interesting...
I noticed the same thing on the dime and penny. A different "serif" maybe...i have no idea how to spell that.
Indeed! It could be possible since some 2008 SAEs have "reverse of 2007". I think anything is capable from the Mint these days!
The 2008 S sure looks better. Sometimes the mint does something right. I agree with the other's opinions about coins bearing a 2007 S to be something to scan for, but don't break a set to look. Did you check non proof coins of both years to see if they have the better S mint mark? Clinker
