Just snapped up this sestertius of Hadrian off eBay which the seller listed as a fake ? I’m pretty sure it’s not and couldn’t resist at the price (£10 !) but any help would be grateful , just in case I missed anything!

The edge just looks like it has some sort of die flaw ?

I don't see anything obvious that it isn't authentic.

Your coin has mushy details and numerous pits, some of which look like they might be casting bubbles. So I can see why the seller had questions about its authenticity. Kudos to the seller for including his suspicions in the listing. Such honesty is to be commended.

Of course, worn coins like yours also have mushy details, so I am looking very closely at the X T R in the reverse inscription, specifically where the edges of the letters rise up from the fields. The transition from field to letter is unlikely to be worn, so it should be crisp and abrupt on a legit coin, but it can be slightly rounded and uncertain on a cast copy. In the photo, the transitions from field to letter look pretty good to me. I'm inclined to think it's legitimate. But you'll be able to tell better when you receive the coin. I suggest you look at this area carefully before reaching any conclusion. Good luck. I hope you can allay any concerns and enjoy it without reservations once you have it in hand.

For about $15 I'd have bought it.
