Coins we wished we never bought or aquired. Name your coin(s) you could live without, on this thread~ pics are a bonus. I have a 1925 S Peace Dollar that in between F&XF i wished I could have saved a few bucks and got me a silver eagle instead. I was pretty new to the coin biz and totally got ripped off I paid $25 awhile ago. I keep it just for grading.
I started on my Walker set before I had learned enough. A couple of the first ones I bought were cleaned AU coins for BU prices. And to make matters worse, they must have been cleaned with some kind of chemical, because within a couple weeks of when I bought them black spots started showing up on them. They look like burn marks or something. I learned from it though.
all my junk silver coins all 6 of them werent worth it but i must admit they were fun to carry around and play with
oftenwrong: that is a very nice fake. If you didn't pay too much it is a real keeper. as for me: it is more often the ones that I let get away. but how about a 1909 S Indian head, unc but cleaned. gotten in a trade years ago (about 1978.)
I have about 25 mint boxes of 2005 buffalo nickels that i can't sell for what I paid for them. I tried listing some on ebay at what I paid (including shipping) and got no bids.
I bought a problem coin from an ebay buyer, who seemed so knowledgeable and friendly. He assured me that the coin was original. Got the coin back from ANACS as plugged (although well executed) and he starts denying about his "guarantees", claiming that he didn't know and it was way past his 1 week return policy. 2nd on is from Coinmadz, who is a self-slabber under the NAC brand. I bought a gold coin graded "MS-67" but was a cleaned/dipped AU at best. Ended but reselling the coin for a $50 loss. I was a naive beginner and they took advantage of it. Painful but you learn from it.
Common 90% I bought some common 90% on the silver run-up. I ended up selling it for a big loss. Though I like to invest in silver, up until then I always bought VG silver dollars. I did and still believe they are the best insurance policy as they tend to hold their value on the way down.
Just yesterday I walked into a coin shop, and as luck would have it, I didn't bring my list, and I for one don't have every coin I own commited to memory yet. I hate looking around and walking out empty handed....for some reason I think I'll offend the owner or something...so I buy a few nice Morgans that I honestly couldn't remember owning. Turns out, I did own both already. I like the coins, but I don't need duplicates. So, I sippose they would count as coins I wish I didn't have right now. Guy~
I'd have to say my 1964 proof Roosevelt. I can't get rid of the darn thing. It's like a bad pair of sunglasses. Also, I have a gold plated 1979 Susan B. that I paid $1.25 for years ago.
a problem 1828 large cent with a dent so deep in the rev that shows to the obv, I wish I could take that back.
Here’s a 1960 copper/nickel Josefa 5 centavo. Too bad it’s a just chrome-plated bronzes. Makes a good hole filler for a rare coin at lest. :goofer:
