I have some 50’s and 60’s proof sets that I would like to display / preserve in the original plastic. Does anyone make a clear case to do this? I really don’t want to put them in the Capital holders. I would prefer to keep them sealed.

Also some of the envelopes are getting brittle.

I saw some sets on eBay in holders but they look older. Any info please?

I think those cases with the clips people use at shows would work, with the felt inner lining.

You kinda sorta have a complicated problem there. Ya see, the original packaging, not the pliofilm sleeves that contain the coins but everything else, is harmful to the coins in that the paper and cardboard put off harmful gasses. Gasses that could easily cause unsightly toning. And that is also the problem with display cases because it's rather difficult to find any that are made of inert materials. And if they aren't made of inert materials that can cause unsightly toning too. As will leaving the display cases in the open air. Simply put everything about the idea is bad for coins.

Now I'm not saying it can't be done, merely that it is beyond difficult, and probably expensive to actually do it. For it would entail finding someone to custom make display cases of inert materials that are also very tightly fitted so as to minimize air flow as much as possible, and have a hidden space someplace, easily accessible, so that desiccant could be changed as needed to minimize humidity inside the case.

Bottom line, I suspect the cases would cost a good bit more than the coins are worth. Assuming of course that you could even find somebody to build them.

Capital Plastics made this type of holder many years ago. I don't don't know if they still offer it. Extended time in the ight is not good for any coins and very bad for Proofs. I would be careful with respect to displaying them on a long term basis.

I have kept Proof sets from the 1955 flat packs to 1964 in the original packaging and never had a problem. In fact, I've had much better luck with the flat pacts so far as preservation is concerned than the modern holders. Some years are very prone toning, and some Proof coins just seem to go bad on their own in the holder.

I give off harmful gasses also, but I don't think he wants to keep the paper sleeves and packaging in the same place as the pliofilm. I have a 1963 proof set in the pliofilm in a snap shut holder, but don't see them for sale anywhere. @johnmilton shows what I think he wants. In liu of this, just keep the pliofilm and paper separately.

Yep, exactly what I was looking for. As of now I have the sets in the envelopes in a ziplock bag.

OK. When you said display cases, I was visualizing you wanting some kind of case that would hold several sets in their pliofilm so you could display all of them at the same time. And you planned on hanging that on the wall or on a shelf someplace.

But if what ya want is those individual cases as pictured, you should be able to find them without much trouble. I'm pretty sure Capital will even make them for you if they don't have any.
