Got this one back last month. Please take a stab at what NGC graded it and what you think the grade should be. Thanks to a post on this board I found someone that has taken some nice coin pictures for me.
I agree. A 63 or maybe a 64. Hard to tell, but the cheek looks a little marked. Great toning though. I normally hate toned coins.
I no longer grade toned coins until I hear what Lehigh says. But I do think that toning is very attractive...WTG! :thumb:
MS65. This one seems to have really good surface preservation nick-wise. Always hard to grade from photos, especially toned silver. Toning can hide marks, cuts, and nicks. For instance, is that a small horizontal cut just to the right of Libbie's mouth ? Can't say. I assumed not. If so, it could drop to 64.
Assuming it is not one of those AU-58 heart stoppers, I would go MS-64, and It is a beautiful coin! Jim
I like the colors especially on the reverse but the soft strike and the muted luster will keep this coin at an MS63 (No Star). Nicely Toned Morgan which might drive a small premium--up to 2x bid.
I can only go by the marks and the strike.......my GUESS is a 64. Grading from pics is a career path I have decided against. EDIT: and authenticating in most cases
Not sure if that soft strike you mention is due to the O Mint. I love the toned coins you have posted and thanks for your thoughts. I will post the picture in the holder with grade later tonight.
Anyone else notice how the better pics allowed us to be much more accurate (on average) with our guesses? While grading from photographs/scans will always be problematic, in general the better the photos, the more accurate the guesses....
Couldn't agree more. I found someone local here who took a bunch of pictures of my certified coins. Unfortunatly my coin photography skills have much to be desired.
