Here's a year 2 of Diocletian. The last half of the obverse inscription is quite legible. Note the little o in ΔΙoΚΛΗΤΙΑΝΟC: Diocletian, AD 284-305. Roman billon tetradrachm, 19.2 mm, 7.24 g, 12 h. Egypt, Alexandria, AD 285-6. Obv: Α Κ Γ ΟVΑΛ ΔΙΟΚΛΗΤΙΑΝΟC CЄΒ, laureate and cuirassed bust, right. Rev: Athena seated left, holding Nike and resting on scepter, shield at side; L B (= regnal year 2) in field. Refs: Dattari 5638; BMCG 2485; Milne 4765; Cologne 3211; RCV 12856.
This time i think i`m a little closer but two names have come up Carinus, and Numerian i did an AC search and VC coins. VC coins showed 2 coins with the exact same lettering but 2 names ? AC showed i think more towards Carinus so i`m going to go with Carinus no doubt i`ll be wrong again.
Yes, it's Carinus as Caesar, regnal year 1. Emmett 4005. Good job! The obverse legend reads AKMAKAPINOCK. His full name was Marcus Aurelius Carinus. Here's how the obverse legend breaks down: A(VTOKPATΩP) = Imperator K(AICAP) = Caesar Μ(ΑPKOC) = Marcus A(VPHΛIOC) = Aurelius KAPINOC = Carinus K(AICAP) = Caesar The reverse shows an eagle standing left, wings open, wreath in beak, between two vexilla. "L A" connotes regnal year 1. In Egypt, regnal years began August 29th or 30th if a leap year) on our current calendar system, so the coin is dated 282-283.
