I have a misprinted james monroe gold dollar on ebay I was wondering the best way to discribe it. It was the gold plattin skipped wich I thinks called back gold and the dates and in god we trust ect is very hard to see. If that's not aloud please edit thanks. EDITED---it's not

dustinr: Welcome. And: Please remember that the mint promoted these as "golden" meaning the color. There was never, and never will be any gold plate. Your coin simply looks as though it is a darkened (perhaps from dirt, or who knows how) coin. Many of them that I find with my metal detector look very dark, apparently they tone (darken) easily in the sand a soil.

If the lettering is running off the plachet or it doesn't weigh the same as other dollars, then I suggest you take some better photos & we may find that it is worth some real money.
