Good evening all, I have two 1926 Canadian nickels...and I'm trying to decipher which variety they belong to, near/far S. Here is the explanation I've found on the Internet, which to be honest didn't really help me all that much. Also included are the photos of the first nickel. Front, back, and a closeup of the date. I'll see if I can post the next 3 photos of the second nickel as a reply - it's only letting me upload 5 files at this point. Thanks everyone for your assistance! ~benjamin
Second nickel photos Here are the second set of photos. If I had to guess, I'd say they are both Far 6 variety. Conclusions? ~benjamin
This explanation is helpful http://www.calgarycoin.com/modern/cd5cent.htm scroll down to 1926. Check the distances between the 6 and the rim.
I meant to say Near 6. No, really. Okay, I definitely do see the differences in the rim distance of both varieties. Also, it looks like the Far 6 has a "chunkier" 6. Thanks for your help guys! ~benjamin
Benjamin, You're dealing with the same hard call I have, considering that I still need a far 6 to finish my album and I'm apprehensive about paying $100+ for a $3 coin that I was wrong on. My best opinion- the near 6 also appears to have a longer stem on the 6 itself and seems to be slightly further up from the rim than the far. Let us know if you can find a concrete way of knowing this. Good luck-
