I never knew this about Canadian coinage ... just looked at wikipedia and other websites. But they had copper plated steel and zinc cents, plus various compositions with a copper base going back years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penny_(Canadian_coin) Look at all the "magnetic" and "non magnetic" varieties for all the years https://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins-prices.php?canadian_coins=1-cent-2003-2012 example below
Darn!.. Now I have to go through all of my Canadian Cents again to see if I have a 2006 -Magnetic and a 2006 P - Non Magnetic!
look at the link. Any of the steel core cents can be Magnetic and Non-Magnetic varieties PLUS each of the Circulated, Uncirculated, PL and Proofs do too. Of course, I'm wondering if you could just make it magnetic/nonmagnetic with your own equipment that one uses to magnetize or not screwdrivers?
I always make sure to check my 04-07 Canadians to see if they are magnetic. 2006 was a crazy year at the RCM.
