I believe it was the mid 1930s, and this information is substantiated by Wayne Herndon's essay on roll collecting (part 2, 'History of Roll Collecting'), found here: http://reviews.ebay.com/BU-Roll-Buy...History-of-Roll-Co_W0QQugidZ10000000001449104 I'm not sure why you're asking, but yes, lots of early coins are wrapped in modern rolls and sold on eBay and other venues as 'original.' Also, you have to look at the roll in question. I've seen plenty of more modern rolls purposely scuffed so they look older. The oldest original bankwrapped rolls I have personally handled have been from the early 1950s, and I have seen original Lincoln cent rolls from the 1940s. I can't say I've seen any truly original rolls from the 1930s.
